Electric Bathtub Psalms

Electric Bathtub Psalms is a heartfelt confession of love, loss, and emergence by Brooklyn-based photographer and poet Mariette Papić.
Electric Bathtub Psalms collects twelve poems, three drawings, and documentation from Mariette’s installation Love Song 4.22, which appeared at Grace Exhibition Space in Brooklyn in April, 2009.
The volume is a half-letter saddle-stitch chapbook with color covers. A hand-sewn chapbook with covers hand-dyed and silk-screened by New York street artist Nathan Reimer (I Love You) on French watercolor paper is also available in a limited edition of fifty copies. Both editions are available in the Shop.
to be determined
Because of you I’m cleaning.
A periodic process of taking out the old so I can
bring in the new.
Dust filters in with the afternoon.
You with every previous you.
Sifting down with memory,
lifting up with the wind although it’s really just a
breeze.
It depends on your scale
how it breathes. But even if it got better.
Even if I changed
and got it together like they do in songs and on TV,
even if I put Everything
in some Organization
I fear I’d find a need to clean,
for periodic affirmation
of the the things I don’t determineEven if I closed the door and drew the blinds tightly
a composite would gather on my strong white sill
and in the fading symmetry of the floor corners that
stop infinity.
The safety of 90 degrees, of numbers.
It comes in ones and zeroes andI can’t keep myself from math anymore than I could’ve
kept myself
from you.I could seal myself in
against or
out
without a home,
experiencing life like a spirit.
free.
For that there is time,
another periodic process after all of us have gone.
So for now I see the futility of the vacuum,
the fragility of the safe place and
the weight of my life in dust and afternoon.
